Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease that affects a person’s breathing. Patients living with COPD face significant challenges and limitations, and often are admitted to the hospital. Over 12 million people in the U.S. suffer with COPD, and the number of patients with the diagnosis is rising daily.
Fortunately, the right treatment options for COPD can be effective in helping to control symptoms, minimize further damage, and keep patients from multiple visits to the hospital. To help in this effort, Qualidigm developed a set of patient-centered tools, called LungTalk. The four-part video series covers all aspects of COPD treatment and management from the perspective of patients, families and caregivers; physicians; licensed nurses; and nursing assistants.
Since its launch in 2014, the Lung Talk Video Series has spread nationally and internationally to hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, specialty care practices, physicians, hospice representatives, care-givers, families and others. The four-part educational video series, an accompanying patient educational booklet, and other valuable resources and tools to help patients to manage their COPD are offered free for public viewing and download (see sidebar to the right). Each video series offers straightforward information about COPD in short modules, with versions in English, Spanish (subtitled and voiceover), and with closed captioning.
